Superintendent's Column

It was a joy to watch the Class of 2018 walk the stage at last week’s graduation ceremonies. An overwhelming feeling of accomplishment and hope for the future filled every seat at the HEB Center as more than 2,700 graduates tossed their hats and sang their alma maters.

Our dedicated Leander ISD staff has been with these graduates every step of the way, and that will not change even with the diplomas safely tucked away. We understand that life can be unpredictable, and post-graduation plans do not always go as smoothly as hoped.

For those graduates that experience an unexpected hiccup in putting those plans in place, Leander ISD counselors and transition coordinators are available until June 20 to help. Beginning June 25, Ms. Mona Parrish, a current Leander ISD high school counselor, will be on duty Monday through Thursday to assist students with postsecondary planning needs, including:

  • Navigating the Austin Community College (ACC) application process
  • FAFSA/Financial Aid Help
  • Assisting students who have had a change in college plans
  • Assisting students with the transition to the world of work
    • Resumes
    • Job Applications
  • Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Testing
  • Obtaining TSI Scores

Ms. Parrish will be available to meet with students in person at Vista Ridge HS or by phone. To schedule an appointment with Ms. Parrish, please email her at

Any teacher will tell you that their commitment to students extends beyond the classroom. We stand ready to help our graduates make the transition to their future and know there are many more celebrations to come.
